About Us

Kigoma Vijana Development Alliance (KIVIDEA) is a registered local NGO (Reg. No. 00NGO/R1/00390) based in Kigoma, Tanzania. Founded in 1999 and officially registered in 2000. KIVIDEA is dedicated to empowering young people and protecting vulnerable children through innovative, participatory, and solution-focused approaches.

Our Objectives

Our Core Values

  • Best interest. For everything we do with and for the youth, their interests must primarily prevail, and these include but not limited to their protection, safety, care, health, well-being, and rights.
  • Equality. We uphold that men and women, girls and boys are born equal, that both have equal rights and deserve equal consideration. We will strive for equal opportunities and maintain gender-balance in all we do.
  • Participation and inclusion. Whatever is to be achieved for the youth, it must be done together with them. With no discrimination whatsoever, we work with and serve young people of all categories in terms of gender, religion, ethnicity, socio-economic status, race and nationality.
  • Integrity and accountability. While delivering their work, KIVIDEA staff, volunteers, and members shall act in honesty, transparency and fairness towards the organization, their colleagues, the beneficiaries, and stakeholders. They shall take responsibility accept to answer for their actions. We recognize that we are all human and it is important to acknowledge mistakes or shortcomings when they occur and take corrective or remedial actions immediately.
  • Volunteerism. KIVIDEA was started by youth who were motivated by the desire to help children and fellow youth in more difficult situations. Anyone engaged in the work of KIVIDEA, whether paid or not, must demonstrate great devotion and give it all to the greater cause, which is to help young people in need and change their situation.

Our Management and Experience

KIVIDEA has a general members’ assembly and a Board of governance. The general assembly of members meets once every year for regular meetings, and anytime in extra-ordinary meetings. The Executive Director is the Secretary of the Board, composed of 5 members and elected in the general assembly for a 4-year term.

Board members are elected for their academic qualifications, personal integrity, experience and or commitment to the organization’s goals.
The Board is responsible for the general management of the organization and guarantees accountability and integrity in the organization.
The Board employs the other Executive Director, and approves the employment of all other executive staff upon proposition by the Executive Direc

Our Target

Groups / Beneficiaries

KIVIDEA activities benefit primarily two groups: 1. Children aged of 4 to 14, with special concern for Orphans and Children living under difficult circumstances (Most Vulnerable Children (MVC)). KIVIDEA runs an MVC program that support 120 children in Uvinza DC and Kigoma Municipality. The children are selected by Most Vulnerable Children committees’ members from the registers at ward level. The program to support Most Vulnerable Children (MVC) was introduced in 2012 and currently support 60 children in 4 wards of Uvinza DC and 60 children in 4 wards of Kigoma-Ujiji Municipal. This program also builds the capacity of local ward MVC committees to provide care and support to the children and their families. 2. Youth and adolescents aged 15 to 25 in school and out of school, in rural and urban settings. We give special attention to young mothers, domestic workers, and young people affected by or most vulnerable to HIV/AIDS, GBV, drug abuse, extreme poverty and other forms of discrimination or abuse.

  •  Psychosocial support to MVCs: Counseling, scholastic materials, family support, training and mentoring to most vulnerable children and youth groups.

    • SRH Services: VCT, SRH commodities (condoms, FP, menstrual health).
    • Life skills education.
    • Training and Community awareness on SRHR, GBV, Child rights and protection, maternal health.
    • Entrepreneurship and business skills.
    • Sports facilities and sports gears, team sponsorship.
    • Music, dance, drama and other arts facilities and equipment at the Youth Centre.
    • Financial/material support to youth economic projects.
