On August 24, 2024, a survey meeting was conducted by four officers from the Prime Minister’s Office – Labour, Youth, Employment, and Persons with Disabilities (PMO-LYED) based in Dodoma. The meeting took place at KIVIDEA’s Head Office in Kigoma, Mwanga Majengo Street; from 13:00 to 15:30 EAT. The participants included four KIVIDEA staff, along with two youth delegates, and a group of 20 youth beneficiaries from Katubuka and Kibirizi wards.
The survey aimed to gather youth perspectives on the protection and welfare of youth development through an online form. The form, powered by Enketo, was shared by the surveyors with the participants, and the exact locations of the surveyed population were recorded using GPS coordinates.

The survey was divided into two sections: Section A and Section B. Section A focused on collecting demographic information such as the respondent’s name, phone number, ward, district, region, locality (rural/urban), gender, disability status, education level, specialization, occupation, age range, and primary communication language (Kiswahili/English/Other).
Section B consisted of specific research questions designed to assess participants’ awareness and opinions on various aspects of legal protection and youth well-being in Tanzania. Topics covered included knowledge of existing laws and policies, the adequacy of these legal frameworks, and areas for improvement.
The survey also explored the importance of having specific youth laws, and their potential impact on youth development, and identified key areas such as education, health, employment, and the rights of young people with disabilities that should be prioritized. It also asked us to identify which youth rights should be protected and what institutions should oversee the implementation of youth laws.
The final questions focused on the perceived benefits of youth laws and effective strategies for youth development and solicited additional suggestions for improving legal protection for young people in Tanzania.

Overall, the survey provided an invaluable opportunity for youth to voice their opinions on critical issues affecting them in Tanzania. It allowed them to contribute meaningfully to discussions on how best to protect and promote youth development through effective legislation and policy implementation.
