Safeguarding

KIVIDEA believes every child, young person and adult at risk has the right to dignity, safety and participation free from abuse, exploitation, neglect and discrimination. Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility and applies to staff, board members, volunteers, contractors, partners and visitors.

Our commitments

• Put the best interests, safety, dignity and voice of children and young people first.
• Maintain clear conduct expectations, safer recruitment and appropriate checks, induction, supervision and training.
• Design activities to identify and reduce risks, including risks linked to travel, events, digital communication, photography and data handling.
• Respond promptly, respectfully and without retaliation when a concern is raised.
• Share information only with people who need it to protect someone or meet a lawful reporting duty.

Expected behaviour

Anyone representing KIVIDEA must maintain appropriate boundaries; avoid favouritism, humiliation, harassment, sexual conduct, exploitation and corporal punishment; never exchange money, gifts or assistance for personal or sexual benefit; avoid being alone with a child where this can reasonably be prevented; and use approved, observable channels when communicating with children.

Images, stories and personal information

We seek the required informed consent and explain how an image or story may be used. Consent does not remove KIVIDEA’s duty to assess risk. We avoid unnecessary identifying details, degrading portrayals and content that could expose a child to stigma, retaliation or exploitation. Consent can be reviewed or withdrawn, subject to copies already lawfully published and any legal retention requirement.

How to raise a concern

If someone is in immediate danger, contact the appropriate emergency or child-protection authority first. For a concern connected to KIVIDEA, contact us at info@kividea.or.tz, +255 758 231 999 or +255 744 252 380, or report in person at Block 44, Kividea Road, Kigoma. State that the message is a safeguarding concern so it can be prioritised. Share only the facts needed to understand the risk; do not investigate or confront an alleged person responsible yourself.

What happens after a report

KIVIDEA will acknowledge the concern where safe contact details are available, record it securely, assess immediate safety, refer to authorised safeguarding leads and relevant authorities where required, and limit information to those with a need to know. We aim to treat all people fairly while prioritising protection from further harm. Confidentiality cannot be promised where sharing is necessary to keep someone safe or comply with law.

Concerns about KIVIDEA personnel

Allegations about a staff member, volunteer, board member, contractor or partner are taken seriously. Protective steps may be applied while a concern is assessed. Retaliation against a person who raises a concern in good faith is not acceptable.

Review and accountability

We review safeguarding risks, incidents and learning to strengthen practice. Partners delivering work with KIVIDEA are expected to meet compatible safeguarding standards and report relevant concerns promptly.
